Kenneth C. Stevens, Jr. – Soil Scientist/Environmental Planner Mr. Stevens founded the firm in 1978.  From 1957 through 1969, Mr. Stevens worked as a Soil Scientist for the USDA, Soil Conservation Service, now known as the Natural Resources Conservation Service.  During that period he mapped soils throughout Connecticut.  From 1969 to 1974 he was a Regional Planner and Conservation Specialist with the Central Naugatuck Valley Regional Planning Agency.  While with the Agency he served as staff to several newly created Wetlands Commissions and assisted them in writing wetland regulations.  He also did many of the Sec. 8-24 intermunicipal subdivision and zoning reviews and assisted in rewriting several municipal zoning and subdivision regulations.  Mr. Stevens participated in several studies and reviews of solid waste, transportation and sewage disposal plans prepared for local, regional and state agencies.  In 1974, Mr. Stevens joined Cahn, Inc. as an Environmental Planner.  In this capacity he wrote the environmental sections for several Facility Plans.  He also mapped soils for various engineering projects and worked closely with D.E.P. and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  He participated in the preparation of plans for several solid waste disposal sites in Connecticut.

 

Jennifer L. Beno – Wetland Biologist/Biologist Ms. Beno serves as a Wetland Biologist with the firm.  Since joining the company in 1994 she has been trained in numerous areas of the organization, participating in over 400 projects in 80 towns in Connecticut.  She has prepared different reports which include assessments of wetland quality, analysis of impacts on wetlands, mitigation and planting plans and invasive species identification and eradication plans.  Ms. Beno has worked on large linear projects for utility companies evaluating wetland functions, identifying amphibian breeding habitat and identifying invasive species.  Ms. Beno worked as a research assistant for Richard Orson during summer semester break of 1993.  This research was funded by a grant from the State of Connecticut.  She conducted field work evaluating salt marsh vegetation, obtained peat core samples and conducted laboratory digestion analysis on peat core samples.  The purpose of this investigation was to isolate pollen grains within the peat cores in order to determine the effects of sea level rise on plant communities within the salt marsh.

 

Scott D. Stevens – Soil Scientist/Environmental Site Assessor Mr. Stevens is the registered professional soil scientist with the firm. He has been with the company since 1987. He delineates CT, Federal and Tidal wetlands and represents clients at local inland wetland commission meetings/public hearings, has appeared before the Connecticut Siting Council and has provided expert witness court testimony on several projects.  Mr. Stevens performs most of the sieve tests and permeability analyses conducted in the soil laboratory.  Mr. Stevens also prepares Environmental Site Contamination Assessments involving both Phase I and Phase II ESA’s to investigate the environmental quality of a property.  Mr. Stevens has the specific qualifications based on education, training and experience which meet the definition of Environmental Professional as defined in 40 CFR Part 312.  Mr. Stevens has personally conducted over 100 Environmental Site Assessments involving both Phase I and Phase II ESA’s throughout Connecticut.
